Zoology: Getting Started

Spotlight

The Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL) is a consortium of natural history and botanical libraries whose aim is to improve research methodology by collaboratively making biodiversity literature openly available to the world as part of a global biodiversity community.
In partnership with the Internet Archive and through local digitisation efforts, the BHL has digitised millions of pages of taxonomic literature, representing over 100,000 titles and over 170,000 volumes. The BHL consortium members digitise the public domain books and journals held within their collections. To acquire additional content and promote free access to information, the BHL has also obtained permission from publishers to digitise and make available significant biodiversity materials that are still under copyright.
Its mission is to increase global awareness about the BHL and biodiversity issues through outreach, learning and education, branding, and collaboration with existing and new user communities.
