1. 1 Sept 1933 – Nov 1934; 1974
Correspondence file between publisher H. Douglas Thomson and Shaw relating to “The Daily Herald’s” edition of his Collected Plays (Oldham Press, London, 1934). Shaw was ultimately very happy with the publication but initially expressed some reservations “Your most unfortunate remark about my regarding financial attractions as of secondary importance fills me with the deepest distrust of your designs. It is entirely unfounded. Make me a business proposal; and if it promises to be a lucrative one I will jump at it.” (BL/L/GBS/2). Includes correspondence regarding Shaw’s image to be used for the volume and a B&W photograph of Shaw. Also memoir by Thomson (1974) recalling the events surrounding the publication.
