IReL and Open Access: Springer

IReL, the Irish Research eLibrary is a nationally funded electronic research library. IReL also seeks to secure open access agreements with publishers.

Overview

The IReL-Springer Compact Read and Publish agreement (Apr 2021 - Dec 2024) details are as follows:

  • Read access: allows current staff and students from participating member institutions access to over 2,200 Springer Nature journals, including journals from ADIS and Palgrave imprints and Academic Journals on Nature.com
  • Open access publishing: where the corresponding author is a current staff member or student of a participating member institution at the time an article is accepted for publication in one of the above journals, the author will be invited to publish the article open access at no extra cost.

  • open access invitations are subject to approval by member institutions.
  • only articles accepted for publication between 1 April 2021 and 31 December 2024 are eligible.

Instructions for Authors

For your article submission to be included under the agreement, you must be the corresponding author and affiliated to 'University College Cork'.  In the article submission process you must correctly identify your institution as 'University College Cork'. You must use your UCC email address, and not addresses from other domains. At the time the article is accepted for publication, the corresponding author must be a current staff member or student with a participating institution.

Note. There is a limited annual publishing fund. Once the maximum article allowance for 2023 is reached authors will not be offered the option to publish open access at no cost, as the eligibility recognition will be switched off for articles accepted for publication after that point.
