IReL and Open Access: Springer

The IReL-Springer Nature Compact, Read & Publish agreement (01 Jan 2025  –  31 Dec 2027)  details are as follows:

• Read access: allows current staff and students from participating member institutions access to over 2,200 Springer Nature journals, including journals from ADIS and Palgrave imprints and Academic Journals on Nature.com
• Open access publishing: where the corresponding author is a current staff member or student of a participating member institution at the time an article is accepted for publication in an eligible journal the author will be invited to publish the article open access at no extra cost.

Springer Nature: Springer Compact – IReL

For your article submission to be included under the agreement, you must be the corresponding author and affiliated to 'University College Cork'.  In the article submission process you must correctly identify your institution as 'University College Cork'. You must use your UCC email address, and not addresses from other domains. At the time the article is accepted for publication, the corresponding author must be a current staff member or student with a participating institution.

The corresponding author journey is described here. Note that you must choose 'University College Cork' from the dropdown menu.

Note. Once the quota is fully used, authors of accepted manuscripts will not be offered IReL-funded OA. 

When the quota allowance has been reached, Authors of papers in hybrid journals can continue to make your work open access by depositing the accepted manuscript version in CORA UCC's open access repository. Contact the CORA team at cora@ucc.ie
