Referencing Software: Home

The following are some of the main referencing software programmes that are available.

Referencing Software Choices

The following are some of the main referencing software programmes that are available. UCC Library offers general Introduction to Referencing Software workshops, outlining what referencing software is and providing tips on using it in the most effective way for your assignments and research. We do not provide one-to-one training on any particular software package; for more information on specific options, please see the below.

N.B. You can only have one referencing software package on your computer at any one time, so for example if you already have Mendeley and want to try EndNote you must uninstall Mendeley first. If you have an existing library you can move it between the different packages. There are numerous guides on the internet with instructions e.g. how to move your EndNote library to Mendeley etc.

EndNote Online

EndNote Online:

UCC Library users can get a free upgraded version of EndNote Online with 2GB of free storage via the Web of Science database. See pdfs below for details and instructions. Please note: The instructions will only work if you are on the campus network or using the Virtual App which replicates an on-campus IP.  It's by the IP that the provider is recognising our Web of Science subscription. If you are unable to access campus you can create an EndNote online account directly from http://myendnoteweb.com/ but there will be more limited functionality with that.

Your enhanced online account will remain active for 12 months after you last accessed it via Web of Science. After this period it will revert to the un-enhanced version (eg 25 styles as opposed to 6000 etc). Your references will still be available, but you will not have access to the full range of connections and styles. Simply log in again via the Web of Science to reactivate.

EndNote Software

EndNote Software:

You can  buy a new copy of endnote here

Getting started and training videos here

Your copy of endnote is yours to keep but make sure to sync your library with your online account (you get unlimited online storage). This is so important as it stores safely all your references in the cloud. It means if you ever use a different copy of endnote you can sync it with your online account and all your references and data come back. You can also use your online version in its own right so if you change laptop and don’t want to buy endnote in the future you can continue adding references and citing them in Word with much the same functionality as the desktop version. Its easy to change the Cite While You Write toolbar in Word to the online version (preferences and then application, or for Mac under Tools)

EndNote run free online training sessions regularily. See their Training Calendar
