Guidelines for the purchasing of new VR experiences

We will not purchase:
Experiences of a purely sexual nature.
Experiences that are particularly expensive.
Experiences that are excessively violent.

We will consider for purchase experiences that do not fall into the category above and accomplish at least one of the following:
Offer educational content.
Offer content that is in accordance with the mission of University College Cork
Have significant demand from students.
Are valuable for VR/AR development

  • The VR Learning Studio is available to UCC students and staff.
  • A minimum of two people must be present in the room at all times.
  • All users must watch the safety video prior to their first digital lounge reservation.
  • The Digital Environment Lounge can be booked for a total of 2 hours per day.
  • Don’t move equipment or cables inside of the digital lounge.
  • Don’t install, modify, or delete any software on the digital lounge computer.

Guidelines for the purchasing of new VR experiences

We will not purchase:
Experiences of a purely sexual nature.
Experiences that are particularly expensive.
Experiences that are excessively violent.

We will consider for purchase experiences that do not fall into the category above and accomplish at least one of the following:
Offer educational content.
Offer content that is in accordance with the mission of University College Cork
Have significant demand from students.
Are valuable for VR/AR development

  • There must be a minimum of 2 people in the room during a VR experience.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and stay within the boundary grid during use.
  • It’s important to give yourself a 10 to 15-minute break every 30 minutes (even if you don’t think you need it).
  • If you feel dizziness, nausea, eye strain, headache, or other adverse sensations, stop and remove the helmet, and sit down if appropriate.
  • Consult your doctor before using the VR equipment if you have a pre-existing medical condition (e.g. heart ailment, anxiety disorders, or PTSD).

Oculus Rift Safety Manual

UCC Students and Staff may reserve the Digital Environment Lounge online through the Library room booking system. The first time you book the digital lounge, you will be asked to view a quick training tutorial and then be ready to jump into virtual worlds and use the many applications at your disposal. The equipment to use the Digital Environment Lounge can be collected at the Service Desk in the Digital Scholarship Studio on Q+1 of the Boole Library, on production of your booking confirmation. A Large monitor in the lounge gives you the option to share your immersive experience with others.
