It's a story that hasn't made me the most conventional candidate. America's strong bonds with Israel are well known.
I thought of the 900 men and women - sons and daughters, husbands and wives, friends and neighbors, who won't be returning to their own hometowns. And it puts the lie to the notion that the separation of church and state in America means faith should have no role in public life. And meeting them won't be easy. That is true genius of this nation. For over two decades, he's subscribed to that old, discredited Republican philosophy - give more and more to those with the most and hope that prosperity trickles down to everyone else. Americans are ready to join with citizens and governments; community organizations, religious leaders, and businesses in Muslim communities around the world to help our people pursue a better life.
America, we are better than these last eight years. Washington's been talking about our oil addiction for the last thirty years, and John McCain has been there for twenty-six of them. America, we cannot turn back. Let me also address the issue of Iraq.
Now don't get me wrong. It was because of these newfound understandings that I was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity one day and affirm my Christian faith. Because we all have the capacity to do justice and show mercy; to treat others with dignity and respect; and to rise above what divides us and come together to meet those challenges we can't meet alone. That is one option. As a young man, I worked in Chicago communities where many found dignity and peace in their Muslim faith. Hamas does have support among some Palestinians, but they also have responsibilities.
