Research Data Management Plans Quality-assured research data are key building blocks of the research process. The need for improved research data management, including the FAIR Data Principles, has been widely recognised by researchers, research organisations and funding agencies.
While, research data management can encompass a wide variety of activities, these are usefully captured in the form of data management plans (DMP). This section of our website follows the core requirements as set out in the Science Europe Practical Guide to Research Data Management, under the headings Data Collection, Documentation, Metadata and Data Quality, Storage & Backup During Research, Data Sharing & Long-term Preservation, Data Management Responsibilities & Resourcing and Legal and Ethical Requirements.
It is also important to consider what happens to the research data and other outputs when a staff member or student leaves UCC either at the end of a project or even during. The Research Data Service has prepared a checklist to guide researchers data management decisions at all career stages leaving University College Cork, or for projects during the completion or close-out phase of the project. A data management plan or DMP is a formal document that outlines the management and stewardship of data both during a research project, and after the project is completed. It describes the organization, storage, preservation and potential sharing of research outputs and it is an integral part of good research practice. The core requirements of DMPs are: Data Collection; Documentation & Metadata; Storage & Backup During Research; Data sharing & Long-term Preservation; Responsibilities & Resourcing; Ethics & Legal Requirements.
