1.   15 July 1947

Black and white photograph of Mr. Éamon de Valera (Taoiseach), on his visit to Cill Rónáin (Kilronan), Inis Mór (Inishmore), Co. Galway.  The photograph shows a group of about thirty people posing for a photograph on the Pier. In the front row are, from left to right, Mr. Seamus Mac Ugo (Seamus MacHugo, Assistant Private Secretary to Éamon De Valera), Éamon de Valera, who is wearing báinín jacket and tweed pants and holding a black beret in his left hand down by his side, Micheál Ó Goill of Cill Rónáin (Kilronan), and five boys wearing Aran jumpers and long tweed pants. Second row, left to right, [Rúaidrí de Valera] and Sean Brennan (Aide-de-Camp). The group are standing on a cobbled stone path, on the left of the path are quayside steps down to the water. Two mastheads can be seen in the left background above the standing group. In the background, to the right and behind the group, is a two-storey stone pointed building with second floor windows. Mss notes on the back of the photograph are “3119”, “Put with 1947 Ede V Personal”, and “Visiting the Islands 1947”.
