Library Essentials: Renew a Book

Renew a Book

You can renew a book that you have borrowed in the following ways,

  • Log on to your Library Account and renew online. This will only work on or before the due date.
  • You can phone +353 (21) 490-2292 or email Library Services Desk on the ground floor
  • You can ask a member of staff to renew the book for you at the Library Services Desk.
  • You can re-issue the book to yourself using one of the self-issue machines.

Staff & Doctoral Postgraduates can renew a book up to 3 times.

Postgraduates ( Masters & Diplomas) & Undergraduates can renew a book twice only, after the initial standard loan period.

Your return date may be shortened if a book is recalled by another user. For a standard loan book the minimum loan period is 2 weeks from the checkout date, i.e. you will be guaranteed to have the book for 2 weeks even if the book is recalled on the day you borrow it. If you have already had a standard loan item for at least 2 weeks and it is recalled by another library user, you will then have 3 days to the return the item before fines are incurred.

You cannot renew Short Loan items (yellow sticker and U prefix).

You cannot renew a book if it has been recalled by another reader or a library staff member.
