The Day / An Lá was published by the Cork Twenty Club / Cumann an Fhichead, which was founded by Daniel Corkery (1878-1964) and others in 1915 as a group to promote cultural and artistic activities in the city.

The Fountain Bookshop on Grand Parade was opened by Liam Ruiséal (1891-1978) in 1916.

Holdings

UCC Library Special Collections hold the following issues of The Day. As the numbering was often erratic, a note at the end of Issue 8 clarifies the issues published. Those highlighted are available in PDF format.

Number 1 appeared on St. Patrick's Day,1916, it is not numbered.  Number 2 appeared 1 July, 1916, it is not numbered.  Number 3 appeared 1st January, 1917, correctly numbered.  Number 4 appeared 17 March, 1917, it is in error numbered 3.  Number 5 appeared Midsummer 1917, correctly numbered.  Number 6 appeared September 1917, correctly numbered.  Number 7 appeared 25 March, 1918,  it is in error numbered 6.  Number 8 appeared 25 September 1918.  Number 9 appeared 21 December 1918 [not held].
